Install OpenCart through Softaculous in cPanel. Open your service in the portal, launch cPanel, and find Softaculous Apps Installer under the Software section. Search for OpenCart, click install, fill in your site details, and the installer handles the database, admin account, and file setup. No manual database creation or config file editing needed.
Before you install
Decide on your domain setup first. If OpenCart is going on your main domain, point it there. If it's going on a subdomain or a folder, create that first from your service's Subdomains or Addon Domains tile, then run the installer against it. Softaculous will ask for a database name, an admin username and password, and your store's default language and currency. Keep the admin credentials somewhere safe and you'll need them to log into /admin after the install finishes.
PHP version and extensions
OpenCart 4.x needs a specific PHP range, check the version compatibility on the OpenCart download page before you install. Set the PHP version for your domain from the PHP Version tile in the portal, or from cPanel's MultiPHP Manager if you want more granular control. Our system default is PHP 8.2, which covers current OpenCart releases.
OpenCart depends on standard extensions like gd, curl, mbstring, and zip. Most are enabled by default on our stack. If an extension is missing, cPanel's Select PHP Version tool sets an account-wide PHP version with a per-domain override, and lets you toggle extensions like these without opening a ticket.
If you hit an upload size limit adding product images or a large extension package, that's not the PHP Version tile; it's a separate setting. Go to cPanel > Software > MultiPHP INI Editor and raise upload_max_filesize and post_max_size there.
Why OpenCart runs well here
OpenCart is a database-heavy application, every category page and product listing hits MySQL. Our OpenCart hosting runs LiteSpeed Web Server with LSCache, which caches full pages at the server level so repeat visits to your storefront skip PHP and the database entirely. See how we make your site fast for the full breakdown of the LiteSpeed and Cloudflare stack underneath every plan.
NVMe storage and LiteSpeed's server-level caching benefit any PHP application, including OpenCart. If you want the deepest technical detail on what's cached and how invalidation works, see the cache stack we ship with every WordPress install; most of it applies at the server layer regardless of which CMS or cart you're running.
After install
Log into your OpenCart admin at yourdomain.com/admin using the credentials Softaculous generated. From there, set your store name, currency, shipping zones, and payment methods before adding products. Delete the default demo products and categories early to avoid cleanup later.
If you need direct database access for troubleshooting or a manual import, use phpMyAdmin from the portal's one-click login list. It opens straight into the database Softaculous created for your install.
When to open a ticket
If Softaculous fails partway through an install, or your store throws a database connection error after a plan upgrade or migration, open a ticket from Support in the portal. A real person looks at your account, not a bot, and they can check server-side logs you don't have access to from cPanel.
