Many of our hosting plans include a free domain — for the first year, or for life depending on the plan and current promotions. Here's how it works.
Eligibility at a glance
- Hosting plan must be one that includes a free domain. The order form shows the bundle on eligible plans.
- Billing cycle must be one of the eligible cycles. Annual and longer cycles typically qualify; monthly may not.
- TLD must be one of the eligible TLDs. The common generics (
.com,.net,.org) are almost always included; some shorter or newer TLDs may not be.
The order form tells you exactly what's eligible the moment you pick a hosting plan and a billing cycle. No guessing.
How it shows up at checkout
When you order hosting and pick a domain that's eligible:
- The domain registration line appears on your invoice with a price.
- We zero it out — the line description becomes "Domain Registration - yourdomain.com - 1 Year (Free with hosting)".
- Your invoice total reflects only the hosting cost, not the domain.
You see this clearly in your order summary — the domain shows as $0.00 with a "Free with hosting" label.
"Free for life" vs "free first year"
Two flavors:
- Free for life — the domain renews free as long as you maintain hosting with us on the same plan. If you cancel hosting, the next domain renewal is at standard pricing.
- Free first year — the registration is free; renewals are at standard pricing from year two onward.
Which one applies depends on the specific plan and any active promotion. The order form labels each domain bundle with the type so you know what you're getting.
Domains we charge for, even with hosting
Some TLDs are excluded from the free bundle because they're more expensive at the wholesale level than what we'd absorb. Examples:
- Premium TLDs (
.io,.ai, sometimes.co). - Country-codes outside the standard list.
- Premium-priced individual names within a TLD (e.g., a one-word
.comthat the registry has tagged as premium).
These show up on the order form with their normal price — you can still register them as part of the order, just not for free.
Multi-domain orders
If you're registering multiple domains alongside hosting, only the first domain in the order qualifies for the free bundle. Additional domains in the same checkout are charged at standard rates.
Want a second free domain? Open a ticket with billing — we sometimes have promotions or arrangements that aren't in the standard order form.
What if I'm transferring an existing domain instead of registering?
Transfer-in domains don't count for the free-domain bundle (transfer fees still apply). The bundle is specifically for new registrations.
That said, if you're moving in from another host, our Free Transfer service can move your full website and email setup. Worth asking about.
After hosting cancellation
If you cancel hosting on a "free for life" domain:
- The domain stays registered through its current expiry.
- The next renewal is at standard pricing.
- You can transfer the domain out to another registrar if you prefer.
- Auto-renewal stays on unless you turn it off.
For "free first year" domains, this matters less — they were always going to be at standard pricing from year two anyway.
