Ask AI is a floating assistant built into the Meridian theme in cPanel. It answers questions about your hosting account and helps you find settings faster than digging through menus, but it cannot make changes on its own. Every change still requires you to click the actual button yourself. If you want an assistant that can take action with your approval, that's a different tool: the Flashcloud AI Connector.
What Ask AI is
Ask AI shows up as a floating button in cPanel's Meridian theme, the newer interface you can switch to from a "Try the new Meridian theme" button in classic cPanel (Jupiter). Once you're in Meridian, Ask AI sits alongside the command search (cmd+K) as a second way to navigate the interface, except it answers in plain language instead of a list of matches.
You can ask it things like where a setting lives, what a term means, or what a warning on your dashboard is telling you.
What it answers well
- Navigation questions. "Where do I change PHP version" or "where are my email accounts" get you a direct pointer instead of a search through menus.
- Dashboard warnings. Meridian's dashboard surfaces action-required cards like DNS not resolving or no certificate. Ask AI can answer general questions about what a card like that means.
- Concept questions. What a cron job is, what MultiPHP INI Editor controls versus the PHP Version tile, what a WAF does. General cPanel literacy.
- Where a classic-only tool moved. Some tools, like Cron Jobs, the full Zone Editor, MultiPHP INI Editor, Softaculous, JetBackup, Git Version Control, and Awstats, aren't in the Meridian sidebar. You can find them with the top search or by switching back to classic cPanel.
What it cannot do
Ask AI cannot click buttons, change settings, install anything, or touch your files, email, or databases. It's a read-and-explain tool scoped to the cPanel interface itself. If you ask it to make a change, like reissuing a certificate or turning on a firewall rule, the most it does is point you to the right screen.
Ask AI is a faster way to find the right screen and understand what you're looking at. The actual change is still on you.
It's also built for cPanel, not the portal - it won't help with your invoices or domain settings at portal.flashcloud.com.
How it differs from the Flashcloud AI Connector
The Flashcloud AI Connector is a separate system entirely, and the difference matters if you're deciding which one to use for a given task.
- Scope. Ask AI only knows about the cPanel session it's running in. The AI Connector reaches your whole Flashcloud account through
https://mcp.flashcloud.com/mcp- hosting, domains, DNS, and more, depending on what you've approved. - Where it lives. Ask AI is inside cPanel itself. The AI Connector is external: you connect an assistant like Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or Cursor to your account and talk to it from that tool, not from inside the portal or cPanel. See connecting Cursor or connecting Gemini for the setup steps, which are nearly identical across assistants.
- Can it act? This is the real difference. Ask AI cannot change anything, ever. The AI Connector can, but only with your explicit approval on each action, a confirmation step every time.
- Oversight. The portal's AI Agents page lists your connected agents with their permissions and activity status, and you can revoke access there. Ask AI has no such page, because it never acts in the first place.
Use Ask AI when you're in cPanel and want to find something or understand what you're looking at. Use the AI Connector when you want an assistant that can actually make a change on your behalf, with approval built in at every step.
If Ask AI gives you a wrong or confusing answer
Ask AI helps you find and understand things; it doesn't guarantee the answer is right. If it points you somewhere that doesn't match what you're seeing, or a dashboard warning doesn't resolve the way it described, don't spend too long chasing it. Open a ticket from Support in the portal, or use live chat. A real person can check the actual account state directly.
