If you're moving to another registrar, we'll get out of your way. The transfer-out process is the same as the standard ICANN-mandated flow at any registrar.
Before you start
A few prerequisites:
- Domain registered or transferred more than 60 days ago. ICANN rules — no exceptions.
- Auto-renew status doesn't matter — you can transfer out either way.
- Renewal status — if you're inside 14 days of expiry, renew with us first or risk the transfer not completing in time.
- Make sure your contact email on file is one you can access — the gaining registrar will send confirmation messages there.
How to start the transfer
- Sign in and go to Domains.
- Click the domain you want to transfer out.
- Find the Transfer Out tile.
- Unlock the domain if it's locked (the toggle is right there).
- Get the EPP code (also called auth code or transfer code). The portal will display it.
- Take the EPP code to your new registrar and start the transfer there.
Most registrars have a "Transfer in a domain" form that asks for the EPP code.
What happens next
- Your new registrar contacts the registry and us.
- We send you a confirmation email at the WHOIS contact email.
- Some registrars require explicit approval; others auto-approve after a short waiting period.
- Once approved, the transfer completes — usually within hours, sometimes up to 5 days.
- The domain's expiry date is extended by one year as part of the transfer (this is registry policy, not specific to us).
What we do with your data
When the transfer completes:
- The domain disappears from your Flashcloud account in Domains.
- Any DNS records you had with us at our nameservers are no longer authoritative — make sure your new registrar has the records set up before transfer completes.
- Email accounts on hosting (if any) are unaffected by the domain transfer; those live on your hosting account.
Common gotchas
- DNS goes dark briefly if you don't pre-set up DNS at the new registrar before transfer. Mitigate by setting up DNS records at the new registrar BEFORE initiating the transfer.
- Email at the old registrar's address — if you used WHOIS privacy with us, the gaining registrar might not be able to email you for confirmation. Either turn off privacy a day before transfer (ensures your real email gets the confirmation) or check the privacy proxy email forwarding.
- EPP code expiry — some registrars regenerate EPP codes after a few days. If your transfer takes a while, you might need a fresh code. Just request a new one from us.
We don't lock you in
Some hosts make the transfer-out process painful — extra fees, hidden settings, slow EPP code delivery. We don't do that. The EPP code is in the portal the moment you ask for it, the unlock toggle is one click, and there's no fee for transferring out.
If something feels off during your transfer, open a ticket — we'll help even though you're leaving.
