HOSTING

Where your website and data are hosted

IN SHORT

Flashcloud hosts across four datacenters: New Jersey (US East), Seattle (US West), Frankfurt (Europe), and Singapore (Asia). You pick the location at order time, and it's where your site's files, databases, and email physically live. Choose the one closest to your visitors for the lowest latency.

When you order hosting, you choose which datacenter runs your site. That choice sets where your files, databases, and email physically live, which matters both for speed and for data-residency questions.

The four datacenters

We host across four locations so you can keep your site close to your visitors:

  • New Jersey, US (US East)
  • Seattle, US (US West)
  • Frankfurt, Germany (Europe)
  • Singapore (Asia)

You pick the location at order time. We default to the nearest match based on your IP when you sign up, but the choice is yours. Pick the one closest to most of your visitors for the lowest latency. See What runs underneath your hosting.

What "where your data lives" covers

Your chosen datacenter is where your live site is stored and served: the website files, databases, and email on that hosting account. Backups are kept on separate infrastructure from your live data, not on the same disk. See Our backup options.

EU and GDPR-conscious customers

If you want your data to stay in the European Union, choose Frankfurt, Germany at order time. Your site's files, databases, and email for that account then live in the EU rather than the US or Asia.

A few honest caveats:

  • Choosing an EU datacenter is one part of GDPR readiness, not the whole of it. GDPR also covers how you collect, process, and disclose personal data, your privacy policy, and the third-party services you use. Hosting location alone doesn't make a site compliant.
  • Flashcloud does not claim a specific compliance certification on your behalf. We give you the choice of where to host; certifying your own compliance is your responsibility, ideally with advice from someone who knows your jurisdiction.
  • Third-party tools you connect (analytics, payment gateways, email marketing, a CDN) may move data outside your chosen region. Review each one separately.

Changing location later

Location is set at order time. The existing setup docs don't cover flipping an account to a different region in place, so if you already have hosting in one location and need it in another, treat it as a move to a new account in the target datacenter. Open a ticket with our team and we'll help you plan it.

Common questions

Which datacenter should I pick for my site?

Pick whichever is closest to most of your visitors. That gives you the lowest latency, and Flashcloud defaults to the nearest match based on your IP at signup, though you can change it at order time.

Does hosting in Frankfurt make my site GDPR compliant?

No. Choosing an EU datacenter keeps your files, databases, and email in the EU, but that's only one part of GDPR readiness. Your privacy policy, how you collect and process personal data, and the third-party tools you use all matter too, and Flashcloud doesn't certify compliance on your behalf.

Are my backups stored in the same place as my live site?

No. Backups are kept on separate infrastructure from your live data, not on the same disk.

Can third-party tools move my data outside my chosen datacenter?

Yes. Analytics, payment gateways, email marketing tools, and CDNs you connect may move data outside your chosen region, so review each one separately.

Can I move my site to a different datacenter later?

Location is set at order time, and there's no in-place way to flip an account to a different region. Open a ticket with our team and we'll help you plan the move to a new account in the target datacenter.
