AI and your website: a practical map
Four things people mean by AI and your website, what each one really involves, and the ten guides that answer them properly.
Key takeaways
- AI and your website means four separate jobs: building a site with AI, hosting what AI built, letting an assistant run the hosting account, and being found and cited by AI assistants.
- An AI assistant can export a site, but the files still need a real host: a single HTML file, a Vite or React build and a Next.js static export all run on a Flashcloud shared plan as plain static files.
- The Flashcloud AI Connector is an MCP server at https://mcp.flashcloud.com/mcp that Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Cursor connect to over OAuth 2.1 with a Flashcloud login.
- Every change an assistant makes through the connector is a two-step confirmed action, and payments, passwords, two-factor settings and cancellations never happen through an assistant at all.
- Flashcloud shared hosting starts at $2.79 a month on an annual term and every plan includes a free domain for life, free SSL, mailboxes, daily backups and human support.
Ask ten site owners what "AI and your website" means and you get ten answers. One of them built a landing page in ChatGPT last week. One is paying a builder monthly and wants out. One wants an assistant to fix DNS so they never have to open cPanel again. One has noticed that ChatGPT describes their business with a price that was true two years ago.
They are four different jobs. Mixing them up is why most advice on this topic is useless, so here is the split, and then the guide for each.
Building a site or app with AI. You describe what you want and a tool writes it. The output is files: HTML, a React build, a WordPress theme, a Node app. The tool is good at this and getting better monthly. What it does not give you is an address, email on your domain, or anywhere permanent for the files to live, and it is worth knowing early what an AI website builder gives you and what you own.
Hosting what AI built. The files have to sit on a server, under your domain, with a certificate and a mailbox. This is ordinary hosting work, and the only thing AI changes is the shape of what arrives: often a single file, sometimes a build folder, occasionally a whole Node app. Flashcloud runs all three on a shared plan.
Letting an AI assistant run your hosting. Connected to your account, an assistant can read your real data and make changes you approve: add a DNS record, create a mailbox, clear a cache, restore a backup. This is new, it works, and the interesting question is what you should let it touch. See AI agents and your hosting account.
Being found and cited by AI assistants. People now ask an assistant for a plumber instead of searching for one. Your site is one input into that answer and other sites are the rest. There is nothing to buy and plenty to fix: how AI assistants find, read and cite your website.
Build it with AI
AI tools produce a site in minutes and then stop at the edge of the internet. Getting from an artifact or a Canvas file to a real address is export, upload, domain, certificate, in that order. How to host a website built with ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini walks the whole path per tool, including the parts the assistant cannot do for you. As of October 2026 the native publish features stop short of a custom domain in most tools: a Claude artifact publishes to a claude.site link with no custom domain, Gemini Canvas gives a share link, and ChatGPT Sites hosts on a chatgpt.site URL where a custom domain means owning the domain and editing DNS yourself.
Coding tools are a different animal. Lovable, Bolt, v0 and Cursor write applications, not pages, and the output is a project with a build step and sometimes a database. Hosting AI-built apps from Lovable, Bolt, v0 and Cursor covers the export routes and what each one costs you in work. Our own October 2026 test on a Start plan: npm run build produced a 164 KB bundle, the contents of dist/ went up by FTP, and a client-side route returned 404 from LiteSpeed until the standard mod_rewrite fallback was appended to the existing .htaccess. That file is not empty on a fresh cPanel docroot, so append, never replace.
The question underneath both is ownership. Builder hosting is convenient until you want to leave, and what you can take with you varies by tool and by plan tier. AI website builder vs AI coding tool: what you own sorts the tools by what actually leaves with you.
Built it with AI? Host it on your own domain.
Upload the files, pull them from GitHub, or let the assistant that built it deploy through the AI Connector. Free domain and SSL, from $2.79/mo.
Host what AI built
Hosting an AI-built site is hosting, with one wrinkle: you are receiving someone else's output rather than building in place. A single HTML file, a Vite, React, Vue or Svelte build and a Next.js static export all run on a Flashcloud shared plan as plain static files. Node and Express servers run through cPanel's Setup Node.js App on Node 22 or 24, and Flask, Django and FastAPI apps through Setup Python App on Python 3.11, both with environment variables set from the panel, which is where the API keys the assistant hard-coded should actually live.
WordPress is the common case nobody plans for. An assistant writes a theme or a plugin, hands you a ZIP, and the install path is the ordinary one. AI and WordPress: plugins, themes, agents and your hosting covers installing AI-written code without breaking a live site, the AI plugins worth their database weight, and what to do when an agent edits your content.
Apps that call an AI API are the other half. They do not need a GPU, because the model runs at OpenAI or Anthropic and your server only makes an HTTPS request and waits. Running AI-powered apps and features on ordinary hosting sets out what shared hosting handles, where a VPS starts to earn its price, and how to keep a key out of a public repository. If the files are already somewhere else, free AI migration moves an AI-built site onto your domain at no cost with every plan: you send the files, we set up the domain, SSL and email.
Let an assistant run it
Connecting an assistant to a hosting account sounds reckless until you see the mechanics. The Flashcloud AI Connector is an MCP server at https://mcp.flashcloud.com/mcp. Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Cursor and any MCP-compatible client connect to it over OAuth 2.1 with a Flashcloud login, so the assistant never sees your password and holds a revocable token instead. Every change is a two-step confirmed action: the assistant proposes exactly what will happen and nothing runs until you approve it. Payments, card details, passwords, two-factor settings, contact details, cancellations and domain transfers sit behind a hard wall and only happen in the portal, by you. Connect an AI assistant to your Flashcloud account is the setup, and our AI Connector page carries the full list of what a connected assistant can read and change.
We tested the deploy path on our own test account in October 2026. The assistant proposed a subdomain, we confirmed, and cPanel created it in seconds with a document root in a folder beside public_html rather than inside it. The assistant then wrote a 3,877-byte index.html in a single call and LiteSpeed served it immediately, HTTP 200. Two honest limits from that run: the connector caps files at 256 KB each, so a built bundle still travels better by FTP or a GitHub pull, and the padlock appears after DNS points at the server, not before. Until then the hostname answers with a self-signed certificate and a browser warning.
The pillar on AI agents and your hosting account, linked at the top of this page, is the full account of what to delegate and what to keep manual. The day-to-day version, which is less about permissions and more about habits, is running a small website with AI, day to day: the weekly jobs an assistant genuinely shortens, and the ones where it invents a plausible answer and costs you an hour.
Get found and cited
Assistants now sit between a person asking and your website answering. They read your pages, they read what other sites say about you, and they produce one answer instead of ten links. The pillar linked at the top of this page explains the mechanism, which bots do what, and the handful of changes on your own site that make a difference. Our companion piece on how AI is reshaping SEO, GEO and organic web traffic is the wider picture, and how to check what AI assistants say about your business is the first thing to do, before changing anything, because the usual finding is a stale fact rather than an absence.
Different kinds of site need different things from this. A restaurant needs its hours and menu machine-readable; a consultant needs a page that states a specialism plainly; a shop needs product data that survives being summarised. AI-built websites by use case works through what each kind needs from both hosting and visibility, and the per-tool detail lives on the assistant pages: claude-hosting, chatgpt-hosting, gemini-hosting, perplexity-hosting, lovable-hosting, bolt-hosting, v0-hosting, cursor-hosting and vibecode-hosting.
And keep it safe
AI changed the threat model in both directions. Code arrives faster than it gets reviewed, so an AI-written form handler can ship an injection flaw that a human would have caught. Attackers run the same tools, so the probes hitting your login page are cheaper and better targeted than they were. And a new category appeared: content on a page that tries to instruct an assistant reading it. AI-era website security for small sites is the practical list, including what to check in AI-written code before it goes live, and what an agent with write access to your account should never be allowed to do.
Hosting carries part of this. All Flashcloud shared plans run on NVMe storage, LiteSpeed web servers, Cloudflare CDN and cPanel, with a web application firewall, daily malware scanning and DDoS protection included, and daily backups with 30-day retention behind it. Support is answered by people, not by an AI chatbot first, which matters most on the day something is broken and an assistant is confidently telling you the wrong cause.
Every vendor fact here was checked in October 2026 and is refreshed every three months, because these tools change monthly and a year-old article about them is fiction.
All ten guides end on the same shared plan, because that is the honest answer to most of these questions: an AI-built site needs ordinary hosting with a domain, SSL, mailboxes and backups, and hosting for AI-built websites lays out the deploy paths tool by tool. The rest is the reading.
