Moving from SiteGround doesn't require you to export anything yourself. Go to Free Transfer in the portal sidebar, fill in your domain and SiteGround login details, and a migration specialist copies your files, database, and email over for you. Your SiteGround site stays live the entire time during the migration.
The only real decisions on your end are what SiteGround access to hand over and what to do with any SiteGround time you've already paid for. Both are covered below.
What to share from SiteGround
Give us login access to your SiteGround account in the Free Transfer form, or one of the following:
- Your SiteGround account login for the site you're moving, which lets the specialist pull files and the database directly.
- SFTP or SSH credentials if you'd rather not share your full account login. Check your SiteGround panel for SFTP credentials, or create a dedicated SFTP account just for the migration.
- Database credentials separately if your database lives outside the usual WordPress config, which matters for custom-built sites.

Once the migration is confirmed done, rotate that SiteGround password (or delete the temporary SFTP account) so old credentials don't linger anywhere.
What stays live during the move
Nothing changes for your visitors until you say so. The specialist copies your files, database, and email from SiteGround while SiteGround keeps serving the live site.
If your site sends or receives mail on SiteGround, mention it in the migration notes on the form so the specialist can plan around it.
Unused SiteGround time
If you're mid-term on a SiteGround plan, that prepaid time isn't automatically wasted. Full details, including how to claim it, are in Migration credit for unused hosting time.
Moving from Wix, Squarespace, or Shopify instead
The mechanics above (Free Transfer form, credentials handled through a ticket) are the same regardless of your old host. If you're coming from a builder platform like Wix, Squarespace, or Shopify, still start with the Free Transfer form and mention the platform by name in the notes field, so the specialist scopes the right approach from the start.
Before your first day is done

When to open a ticket
If you can't locate SFTP credentials in SiteGround, if your site has a database outside the standard config, or if you're not sure what access to send, open a ticket through Support in the portal and describe what you have. Real people work these, and they'll tell you exactly what's needed rather than leaving you guessing.
