Squarespace doesn't export to WordPress cleanly. There's no database to download and no one-click migration plugin that works both ways. The fastest, most reliable path is our Free Transfer service: our team rebuilds the site content on WordPress by hand, using your live Squarespace site as the reference. Your Squarespace site stays live and untouched the whole time, and nothing points your domain here until you approve the new build.
This is different from migrating an existing WordPress site, see migrating your WordPress site to Flashcloud for that path. With WordPress-to-WordPress moves there's a database and a file structure to copy over, so a plugin or a manual export/import works. Squarespace stores everything in its own closed system, so the practical move is a content rebuild: pages, posts, images, and structure recreated in WordPress, not a file transfer.
What to submit on the Free Transfer form
Open Free Transfer in the portal sidebar under Goodies and fill in the destination domain (the hosting service on your account this site should land on) and your current provider, Squarespace. Since there's no control panel login to hand over for a Squarespace site, use the notes field instead:
- Your live Squarespace URL, so the specialist can browse the whole site as reference.
- Whether you want the design matched closely or rebuilt with a WordPress theme.
- Any pages, blog posts, or forms that matter most, in case something needs to be prioritized.
- Whether the site has a Squarespace store. Product listings, images, and descriptions can be rebuilt in WooCommerce, but note this upfront since it adds scope.
If Squarespace gives you an export file for your content, mention in the notes that you already have it. It saves the specialist a step. Don't worry if you don't. Full details on the request flow are in Requesting your Free Transfer, step by step.
What stays live and what changes
Squarespace keeps serving your site at its current address for the entire rebuild. Nothing about your live site changes until you approve the WordPress version and we point your domain here. Check navigation, forms, and any pages that matter before anything goes live. See your first day with Flashcloud, a setup checklist for what to check once you're pointed here.
Images and written content copy over as part of the rebuild. Some Squarespace-specific features, like certain built-in galleries, animations, or section layouts, don't have a 1:1 WordPress equivalent. The specialist rebuilds the closest match using WordPress and its themes rather than trying to force an exact clone of Squarespace-only behavior. If pixel-for-pixel layout matters to you, say so in the notes and flag which sections you care about most.
If your site includes a contact form, note where those submissions currently go (an email address, a spreadsheet integration) so the new WordPress form can be wired to land in the same place.
Email and domain
If you're using Squarespace's built-in email or Google Workspace tied to your Squarespace domain, that's separate from the site rebuild and won't be touched by the transfer. Decide whether you're keeping your current domain registrar or moving the domain itself; that's a separate step from hosting.
Already paid ahead on Squarespace?
If you're mid-subscription on Squarespace, don't let that stop you from moving now. On most accounts we can credit some of that unused time toward your Flashcloud account. See migration credit for unused hosting time for what to send and how it's applied.
When to loop in support
If your Squarespace site has a store with a lot of products, member-only content, or a booking system, open a support ticket first and describe the setup before submitting the transfer form. That gives the specialist a heads-up on scope before the rebuild starts, rather than discovering it partway through.
