Cloudflare Registrar's dashboard looks different from most registrars, so unlocking the domain and finding the EPP code can take a bit of digging. If you're trying to move a domain from Cloudflare to Flashcloud, check which kind of move you actually need first: a full registrar transfer (Flashcloud becomes the new registrar) or just a nameserver change (Cloudflare stays the registrar, we just host the site). This article covers the full registrar transfer. If you only need your site to point at our servers and you're fine leaving the domain registered at Cloudflare, see changing nameservers at GoDaddy, Namecheap, and Cloudflare instead - it skips all of this.
Step 1: get the domain unlocked and get an EPP code at Cloudflare
Once the domain is unlocked, get the authorization code (EPP code) from the same domain configuration area in the Cloudflare dashboard. If it isn't shown right away, check the email address on your Cloudflare account.
Two things trip people up here:
- Registrars generally enforce a lock period after registration or after a previous transfer under ICANN rules. If you just moved the domain to Cloudflare, you may need to wait it out.
- Domains registered through Cloudflare's registrar (not just proxied through Cloudflare) sometimes have transfers disabled entirely for certain TLDs or specific security settings. If the unlock option isn't there, check Cloudflare's own support docs for that TLD, or open a ticket with them, since this is on their side, not ours.
This is a case where the general rules apply even though Cloudflare's UI looks different: the underlying protections are the same ones covered in unlocking a domain for transfer.
Step 2: start the transfer in the Flashcloud portal
Once you have the EPP code, sign in to portal.flashcloud.com and go to Marketplace > Domains > Transfer one in (also reachable from Domains > Transfer). Type the full domain name and click Check eligibility.
If it passes, continue through the transfer steps and paste in the EPP code when asked. A few things happen automatically when you transfer to us:
- A free year is added to whatever time is left on the current registration.
- WHOIS privacy is included at no charge, same as any domain registered directly with us. See WHOIS privacy for what that does and doesn't cover.
What happens next
From here the transfer follows the same general ICANN process described in transferring a domain away from Flashcloud, just in reverse, with Cloudflare as the losing registrar. Once it completes, the domain should appear under Domains in your Flashcloud account.
Set up your DNS records at Flashcloud before the transfer finishes, not after. If you're also moving hosting, our DNS is Cloudflare-backed on ns1.flashcloud.com and ns2.flashcloud.com, or add the records you need under DNS Zone Editor on the hosting service if you're keeping DNS elsewhere. A domain that lands with no DNS configured means mail and the site both go dark until you fix it.
If the EPP code never arrives, or Cloudflare won't unlock
Cloudflare's email delivery for auth codes occasionally lands in spam or gets delayed. Check your spam folder and the contact email on file before assuming it's stuck. If Cloudflare genuinely won't unlock the domain or refuses to issue a code, that's a dispute with Cloudflare as your current registrar, not something we can force from our side.
If the eligibility check in our portal fails for a reason that doesn't match what Cloudflare is telling you, or the transfer stalls after you've submitted the EPP code, open a ticket from Support in the portal. It reaches a real person who can look at the transfer status on our end and tell you whether the holdup is with us, with Cloudflare, or with the registry.
