To move a domain from Namecheap to Flashcloud, unlock it and get its EPP code from Namecheap first, then start the transfer from our side: Marketplace > Domains > Transfer one in, type the domain, and click Check eligibility. If it's eligible, the transfer adds a free year to whatever time is left on the registration, and WHOIS privacy is included at no charge.
Step 1: unlock the domain at Namecheap
Sign in to Namecheap and go to Domain List in the left sidebar, then click Manage next to the domain. On the domain overview tab, find the Nameservers and domain lock settings. Namecheap ships domains locked by default to block unauthorized transfers, so look for a toggle labeled something like Domain Lock and switch it off. If you can't find it on the overview tab, check under the domain's Sharing & Transfer tab, which is where Namecheap also keeps the transfer-related settings.
For the general reasoning behind why domains are locked and what your rights are if a registrar won't unlock one, see unlocking a domain for transfer.
Step 2: get the EPP code
Still in the domain's management page at Namecheap, look for Transfer Lock or an EPP Code option, sometimes labeled "Get EPP Code" or "Auth Code for Transfer." Namecheap will show or send you this code, so check the page itself as well as your inbox (and spam folder) for a message referencing an authorization code.
If your domain has WHOIS privacy enabled at Namecheap, that shouldn't block the EPP code from reaching you, but it can affect the confirmation email later in the process. See WHOIS privacy for what privacy does and doesn't cover during a transfer.
Step 3: check a few things before you start
- Very recently registered or transferred domains may not be eligible for another transfer yet.
- If the domain is close to expiring, renew it at Namecheap first. A transfer can fail to complete in time if it's within the last couple weeks of the registration window.
- Make sure the registrant contact email on file at Namecheap is one you actually check. Registrars typically send a confirmation message there as part of the transfer process.
Step 4: start the transfer at Flashcloud
In your Flashcloud account, go to Marketplace > Domains and click Transfer one in (you can also reach this from Domains > Transfer). Type the full domain name and click Check eligibility. If Namecheap has released the lock and the domain clears eligibility, follow the on-screen steps to complete the transfer.
What to expect afterward
The transfer adds a free year to whatever time is left on the registration, and WHOIS privacy is turned on for you at no cost.
If you're also pointing the domain at hosting with us, you'll want to update the nameservers once the transfer settles. See changing nameservers at GoDaddy, Namecheap, and Cloudflare, and for the general mechanics of a domain-to-hosting handoff, transferring a domain away from Flashcloud covers the same flow in reverse.
If it stalls
The most common snag is a mismatched or unreachable registrant email, since both Namecheap's release and the confirmation step depend on it. If you've unlocked the domain, gotten a valid EPP code, and the transfer still isn't moving after a few days, open a ticket from Support in your Flashcloud account. It goes to a real person, not a bot, and they can check the transfer status on our end.
