Letting your AI assistant upload and deploy a site through the connector

Last updated

IN SHORT

The Flashcloud AI connector lets MCP-connected assistants create subdomains, edit DNS, and write files directly to your hosting account. Every write operation requires your explicit approval in chat before changes happen. The files_write tool targets lightweight static sites, enforcing a hard 256 KB limit per file.

You can use an MCP-connected assistant like Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, or Cursor to create subdomains, configure DNS records, and write site files directly to your Flashcloud hosting account. Every write operation requires your explicit approval before the assistant touches your server.

This deployment path works best for lightweight static sites, single-page tools, and quick landing pages. The connector provides a tool named files_write, but it comes with a hard size limit: 256 KB per individual file. For larger bundles, compiled applications, or Git deployments, you will need to rely on standard tooling instead of direct assistant uploads.

The propose-then-confirm workflow

Before an assistant can alter files or records, you must connect an AI assistant to your Flashcloud account and enable action permissions. Read-only permissions will let the assistant inspect your account, but deployment tasks will fail without write permissions enabled.

Every deployment action follows a two-step cycle. The assistant drafts the exact change it plans to make, presents the target path or record, and pauses. It will not write a file or add a record until you provide an explicit confirmation in the chat. If the file path, domain name, or content is wrong, tell the assistant to adjust the parameters before you approve it.

Typical prompts you can run in sequence:

  • "Create a subdomain named demo.example.com on my hosting service."
  • "Verify that the DNS A record points to my server IP."
  • "Write a basic index.html file to the document root of demo.example.com."

Document roots and the 256 KB file limit

When you ask the assistant to create a subdomain or write files, keep server structure in mind:

  • Subdomain document roots: A subdomain does not live inside public_html. Its document root is placed alongside it in your home directory as ~/<subdomain>.
  • Pre-existing files: A newly created document root already contains default cPanel files, including .htaccess (which houses the LiteSpeed PHP handler), php.ini, .user.ini, cgi-bin/, and .well-known/. Never tell your assistant to wipe or overwrite the existing .htaccess file. Instruct it to append new directives instead.
  • The 256 KB limit: The files_write tool rejects any payload exceeding 256 KB. A clean HTML page, lightweight stylesheet, or standard configuration script fits well within this boundary. Large image assets, vendor libraries, and heavy bundled JavaScript files will fail to write.

LiteSpeed Web Server serves static files immediately once they land in the document root. If your domain's DNS is already pointed at Flashcloud nameservers, our system will automatically issue a free Let's Encrypt SSL certificate roughly five minutes after record detection.

When to switch to Git, FTP, or File Manager

If your project requires a modern build step, such as a React, Vue, or Svelte app compiled with Vite, do not attempt to write the distribution bundle through the AI connector. Minified JavaScript bundles routinely exceed the 256 KB per-file limit, and writing multi-folder assets file-by-file through chat prompts is slow and prone to timeouts.

For compiled sites, follow these paths instead:

  • FTP / FTPS: Upload the contents of your local dist/ folder using an FTP client. Use the server hostname or IP shown under Details on your service page in the portal. The username format is user@main-domain. Both plain FTP and explicit FTPS are supported.
  • File Manager: Compress your local build directory into a ZIP archive, upload it via cPanel File Manager (accessible from your portal Service page or cPanel directly), and extract it into the document root.
  • Single-page routing: If you upload a client-side routing application, append the standard mod_rewrite fallback rules to your .htaccess file so non-file requests route to /index.html.

Current connector limitations

The AI connector continues to receive updates, but certain deployment tasks are currently unsupported:

  • No Git repository creation: Creating a Git repository through the assistant is not available yet; asking for one returns an error. You must set up repositories manually using the Git Version Control tool in cPanel.
  • Public Git pulls only: Shell access is not enabled on shared hosting accounts, so the account has no clone URL you can push to. cPanel Git Version Control can clone public HTTPS repositories and pull updates using the "Update from Remote" button, but it cannot accept pushed commits directly over SSH.
  • No build runners: Flashcloud shared hosting does not run build scripts like npm run build inside Git deployment triggers. If you deploy using Git, you must commit your compiled production files to the repository branch you pull.
  • Python apps are created in the panel: Flask and Django run through cPanel's Setup Python App, but the assistant cannot create or restart that app for you. It can upload the files; you create the app, run pip install and set environment variables in the panel.

Monitoring and revoking agent access

You can check active connections and manage permissions at any time under Goodies → AI Agents in the portal. Each agent card shows the connected tools, permission levels, and the last time that assistant interacted with your account.

If an assistant behaves unpredictably or you finish a deployment sprint and no longer need chat-based file access, open the agent card in the portal and disconnect it. The connector immediately revokes the session token, preventing any further read or write calls.

When to contact support

If an assistant reports that a file write succeeded but your site returns a 403 Forbidden or 404 Not Found error, check your document root in cPanel File Manager first. Ensure your entry file is named index.html or index.php and permissions are set to 0644 for files and 0755 for directories.

If the connector reports unexpected API failures during file write attempts, or if your DNS records are confirmed but SSL fails to issue after an hour, contact our team. You can submit a ticket via the portal under Support, or instruct your assistant to draft one for you (see opening a support ticket from your AI assistant). Our support desk is staffed by real engineers.

Common questions

Why did my file upload fail through the assistant?

Your file likely exceeded the 256 KB size limit. The connector rejects any individual file payload larger than 256 KB, which rules out heavy images, vendor libraries, and bundled code. Upload larger assets using FTP, FTPS, or cPanel File Manager.

Can my assistant deploy my React or Vue application?

No, you should not deploy compiled frameworks through the assistant. Bundled JavaScript routinely exceeds the 256 KB file limit, and the hosting platform does not run build scripts. Build your site locally and upload the production folder using FTP or cPanel File Manager.

Does the assistant make changes without asking me first?

No. The connector uses a propose-then-confirm workflow for every deployment task. The assistant drafts the planned change and pauses until you provide explicit confirmation in the chat.

Can I use the assistant to set up a Git repository?

No, creating Git repositories through the assistant is not supported and returns an error. You must set up repositories manually using the Git Version Control tool inside cPanel.

How do I revoke an assistant's access to my account?

Disconnect the agent under Goodies and AI Agents in your portal. Opening the agent card and selecting disconnect immediately revokes the session token, which blocks all future read and write calls.
