Removing or replacing a saved card

Last updated

IN SHORT

To replace or remove a payment card in Flashcloud, go to Billing and select Cards on file. Cards cannot be edited in place. You must add the replacement card first, mark it as default, and then remove the old one so your renewals continue to process.

To remove or replace a saved card, sign in and go to Billing → Cards on file (or the Payment methods section of your Account page). Click Remove next to any card to delete it, or Add a card to save a new one. If the card you're removing is your default, set a different card as default first, otherwise your next renewal has nothing to charge.

Cards can't be edited in place. If your card expired or you got a new one, the fix is to add the new card, then remove the old one.

Replacing a card (the safe order)

  1. Go to Billing → Cards on file.
  2. Click Add a card and enter the new card's details. They go directly to Stripe, not to Flashcloud's servers.
  3. Click Set as default on the new card.
  4. Click Remove on the old card.

Doing it in this order means you're never without a default card, even for a moment. If you remove the old card before adding a replacement, any pending or upcoming invoice has nothing to auto-charge, and you'd need to pay it manually.

Why the order matters

Auto-pay charges whichever card is marked DEFAULT in the "Cards on file" section. If you remove your only card, auto-pay has nothing to work with, and the next invoice sits unpaid until you either add a new card or pay manually from /invoices.

If you're not sure whether removing a card will leave you without a default, check the card tiles first: the one marked DEFAULT is the one in use. If you're removing that one, click Set as default on another card before you click Remove.

Multiple cards on file

You can keep more than one card saved, with one marked as the default used for auto-renewals.

If you removed your only card by mistake

Go back to Billing → Cards on file, click Add a card, and set it as default. You can also pay any invoice manually from /invoices in the meantime. See what happens when a payment fails for what happens if a charge is missed.

Common questions

Can I update my card's expiration date?

No, cards cannot be edited in place. Add the updated card, set it as default, and then remove the expired card.

What happens if I delete my default card before adding a new one?

Auto-pay will have nothing to charge on your next renewal. The upcoming invoice sits unpaid until you add a card or pay manually from /invoices.

Does Flashcloud store my credit card details?

No. Card details go directly to Stripe, not to Flashcloud servers.

Can I keep more than one card on my account?

Yes, you can save multiple cards under Cards on file. The card marked DEFAULT handles your auto-renewals.
