BILLING & INVOICES

Why your renewal price is higher than your intro price

IN SHORT

Flashcloud bills your first hosting term at an introductory rate. When that term renews, it renews at the plan's standard price, which is what covers servers, daily backups, and support long-term. You can check the exact renewal amount in your portal before it's ever charged.

Your first hosting term is billed at an introductory rate. When that term renews, it renews at the standard rate for the plan. Here is why, and how to see your renewal price before it is charged.

Intro price vs standard price

The price you paid to get started is a first-term promotional rate, and it applies to your initial term only. When the service renews, it renews at the plan's standard price. This is normal across the hosting industry, and we would rather be plain about it than hide it.

Why we do it this way

A lower first term lowers the cost of trying us out, backed by our money-back guarantee. The standard renewal price is what keeps the servers, daily backups, and support team running for the long haul. We do not bury the renewal figure, quietly shorten your term, or auto-upgrade you to a pricier plan at renewal. The renewal price you see is the price you pay.

See your renewal price before it hits

You never have to guess:

  • Open Services and click the service. The Information panel shows your billing cycle and next renewal date.
  • We send a renewal-reminder email before the charge (for annual cycles, around 30 days ahead).
  • The renewal invoice in Billing shows the exact amount and line items. See Downloading your invoices.

Current standard prices are always listed on our pricing page and shown in the portal at renewal.

Lock the intro rate for longer

The introductory rate holds for the length of the term you buy. A longer term keeps that rate in place longer before the standard renewal price applies:

  • A monthly term renews at the standard monthly price the following month.
  • A multi-year term holds your starting rate across the whole prepaid period, then renews at the standard rate.

Longer cycles also carry a larger discount of their own. For how the cycles compare, see Monthly vs annual billing cycles.

If the renewal price does not work for you

  • Switch cycle - moving to a longer cycle at renewal lowers the per-month cost. Open a ticket with billing before the renewal date.
  • Change plan - a smaller plan may be the right fit if your needs have changed.
  • Cancel before renewal - set the cancellation to end of the billing period, so the service runs out the time you paid for and does not renew.

Whatever you decide, you will always see the number before you are charged.

Common questions

Why did my renewal cost more than what I originally paid?

Your original price was a first-term promotional rate that applies only to your initial term. When the service renews, it renews at the plan's standard price, which is normal across the hosting industry.

How do I find out my renewal price before I get charged?

Open Services and click the service to see your billing cycle and next renewal date in the Information panel. You'll also get a renewal-reminder email before the charge, and the exact amount shows up on the renewal invoice in Billing.

Can I keep my intro price longer?

Yes. The introductory rate holds for the whole term you buy, so a longer term keeps that rate in place longer. A monthly term renews at the standard price the next month, while a multi-year term holds your starting rate across the entire prepaid period.

What can I do if I don't want to pay the renewal price?

You have three options: switch to a longer billing cycle to lower the per-month cost, change to a smaller plan if your needs have shrunk, or cancel before renewal so the service runs out your paid time without renewing. Open a ticket with billing before the renewal date to switch cycles.

Does Flashcloud ever hide the renewal price or auto-upgrade my plan?

No. Flashcloud doesn't bury the renewal figure, shorten your term without telling you, or auto-upgrade you to a pricier plan at renewal. The price you see in your portal is the price you pay.
